Lavenders fields : the beauty of Provence
Visiting Provence in summer to admire the wonderful Lavenders fields.
Lavender blooms between mid-end of june until middle of July.
Although the word lavender dates back to the Middle Ages, this plant was already used long before that by the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans to perfume their baths and care for their linens.
Beginning in the 16th century, lavender oil was distilled in Provence. It healed wounds and was used as a dewormer. In the 18th century, in combination with other aromatic plants, lavender became a remedy used against the plague.
It was in the 19th century, with the development of industry and perfumery, that this wild plant began to be cultivated.
Take the opportunity to enjoy a secret spot with a local guide, away from the touristy lavender fields.
